Blueberries – a real super food for good health

Blueberries – a real super food for good health

We love blueberries. They’re a tasty, low calorie fruit you can purchase fresh (or frozen) all year long. Did you know that they’re also really good for you? Of all the fruits you can eat, blueberries have one of the highest levels of antioxidants. Antioxidants fight free radicals, the compounds in your body that can cause harm if levels become too high. They also help reduce (bad) LDL cholesterol, they may help lower your blood pressure and they help prevent heart disease. Blueberries can help you maintain healthy brain function and lower your risk of diabetes. They help fight urinary tract infections. Blueberries are good for your heart and can even help your body recover faster from exercise. No matter how you eat them, blueberries are a super food you should eat regularly to keep you and your family healthy and happy!

How to socialize safely during this COVID Fourth of July

How to socialize safely during this COVID Fourth of July

“By far, your safest way to experience Fourth of July 2020 is to remain with the same squad you’ve been with since the shelter in place order began” says Lakes Urgent Care medical director Dr. Sanford Vieder. “But if you are meeting with family and friends for the first time in several months, here are key tips to keep yourself and your family safe:

Do as much socializing as possible OUTSIDE because if present, the COVID-19 virus dissipates into the environment more quickly outdoors.

LIMIT THE SIZE of your group so that the outside area permits safe social distancing. Think about the outdoor space for your party and then how many people can safely attend.

If socializing indoors, always WEAR A MASK. This is to protect you and your guests.

Consider bringing your own food, beverages and disposable plates, cups, etc. This can reduce your risk.

Bring hand sanitizer and tissues for your pocket. It’s helpful if everyone has a tissue in their pocket, just in case.

Wash your hands often and/or use hand sanitizer often.

If possible, don’t use the restroom.

Help the host wipe down all “high touch” areas with disinfectant wipes.

And of course, if you or anyone in your family has COVID-19 symptoms, please STAY HOME!

Lakes Urgent Care (W. Bloomfield /Livonia) will be open 9am-6pm on Saturday, July 4th in case you need us.

If you or a family member needs medical attention, we are here for you. Lakes Urgent Care creates a “clean office” to protect and serve patients during COVID-19 outbreak

Lakes Urgent Care Admission and waiting room policies

We now offer full services at our Livonia office. Prior to entering, all patients will be pre-screened and any patient who exhibits symptoms of COVID-19 will enter a separate waiting room and use separate examining rooms. Our Livonia office has separate waiting rooms and we have obtained sufficient personal protection equipment (PPE) to maintain the highest level of health and safety for our patients and staff.

We continue to offer most services at our West Bloomfield office. Prior to entering, all patients will be pre-screened for COVID-19 exposure and symptoms. Patients who exhibit these symptoms will be given instructions and guidelines at the door.

Patients who do not exhibit these symptoms will be allowed to enter for treatment of most urgent care issues including wound care, basic burn care, eye complaints, abdominal pain (without vomiting or diarrhea), back pain, dermatologic issues, x-ray and initial fracture care, asthma and any other concerns not related to upper respiratory infections or risk of COVID-19 Coronavirus.

We’ve added new disinfectant and sanitization measures for greater safety

In addition to our usual sanitizing processes, we now also use HVLP (high volume, low pressure) disinfectant sprayers in all our examining rooms to assure complete coverage of all surfaces. The new sprayed solutions are organic, non-toxic 100% viricidal and bactericidal, and are FDA and CDC approved for the use against and prevention of the virus which causes COVID-19.In addition to daily deep cleaning, each treatment area, x-ray room and restroom is sprayed after each use. Each patient entering a treatment or diagnostic room will not be exposed to any risks of viral transmission associated with a prior patient visit in that space.

Keep calm and clean your cell phone

Keep calm and clean your cell phone

Well before the coronavirus outbreak, Lakes Urgent Care has promoted the importance of thorough hand washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. And while it’s easier said than done, try to avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

But what about your cell phone? It’s something you hold close to your face every day and it’s likely in need of a good cleaning.

Today, Apple revised it guidelines and now endorses the use of a “70% isopropyl alcohol wipe or Clorox Disinfectant wipes” Here’s an article from PC magazine with common sense guidelines on how to keep all your electronics clean:
